Thanks to Carly, General Hospital‘s Dex avoided being killed by Sonny in the Pine Barrens. But that doesn’t mean his troubles are over. Because while the Teflon Don now knows that his associate was being paid by both Carly and Michael, he still feels betrayed… which means there’s a major target on Dex’s back!
“Sonny wants Dex dead,” portrayer Evan Hofer tells Soap Opera Digest of the tough spot Joss’ beau finds himself in. “He doesn’t know if Sonny is still going to come after him. He let Dex go that night, for Carly, but Dex doesn’t know if that’s for good.”
Being the guy he is, that leaves Dex concerned not only about himself, but also Joss. “He knows Sonny wouldn’t endanger her, but also, Sonny was willing to kill him despite her.”
Heaven knows Joss has had to deal with her share of losses over the years, including the death of former boyfriend Oscar. Plus, having grown up with Sonny as a stepdad, she knows exactly how dangerous his business really is. Let’s not forget that not so long ago, she was very much encouraging Dex to do whatever it took to shut down Sonny and his “coffee importing” business!
With visions of Sonny’s recent attempts on his life no doubt filling Dex’s head, he finds himself having to make some tough decisions. “The idea of [Joss] having to mourn him, I think,, starts to raise these warning flags in his head,” previews Hofer. “So Dex is thinking he has to go.”
Joss fully believes they can find a way out of this dangerous situation. Dex, however, isn’t so sure. “Sonny wants me dead!” reuterates Hofer, in character. “How am I just going to stay here and be with you like nothing happened?”

But would General Hospital really send Dex away? While we doubt it, two big changes taking place behind the scenes raise doubts. On the one hand, current scribes Chris Van Etten and Dan O’Connor have been replaced by the writing team of Elizabeth Korte and Patrick Mulcahey… which means that when their material starts airing in a few weeks, changes will be inevitable.
And then there’s the return of Steve Burton’s Jason. While little is known about Jason’s future storyline, it’s not hard to imagine the character returning to his old stomping grounds, which would mean reclaiming his position in Sonny’s organization. With Jason in, might Sonny decide it’s time for Dex to make an exit… permanently?
